Target Safety
These are guidelines for shooting at metal targets. Unless the manufacturer of a metal target states otherwise, these basic safety tips should be followed.
- Always wear safety glasses and hearing protection, both shooters and bystanders.
- Always maintain a minimum shooting distance of 25-yards for pistols and 100-yards for rifle, from steel targets. This will help to prevent bullet spatter from hitting the people and high-velocity rifle calibers from damaging steel rifle targets.
- Always use cast, swaged or soft-nosed jacketed bullets.
- Always paint and lubricate your steel targets to prevent rust on the moving parts.
- Never shoot steels BBs or FMJ bullets at steel targets. The BBs will bounce back and the FMJ will damage your steel targets, as will steel core and belted magnum ammo.
- Never shoot the frame of the steel targets.
